UCC Expert’s Corner: Financing Statement Reasonably Identified Cows Despite Inaccurate Ear Tag Numbers

A secured party has many options for how to describe particular collateral in a UCC financing statement. Goods, for example, can be covered by a specific collateral description that provides serial and model numbers or other unique identifiers. However, the same goods may also be described simply by type, category, or even the super-generic “All Assets.” All UCC Article 9 requires is that the financing statement “reasonably identifies what is described.”
