United Kingdom – Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act Update
The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act received royal assent October 26 and will enable Companies House to verify the identities of new and existing company directors, people with significant control and those on file on behalf of companies; remove fraudulent organizations from the company register; and share information with criminal investigation agencies. Companies House has not announced effective dates for certain measures such as identity verification which require system development and secondary legislation before they are introduced. Additional measures which will come into force sooner include stronger checks on company names, new rules for registered office addresses, and a requirement to supply a registered email address.
