Federal – U.S. Department of Defense Warns of Scam Regarding Mandatory Beneficial Ownership Reporting
The US Department of Defense Office of Small Business Program posted a scam alert regarding a deceptive solicitation captioned Mandatory Beneficial Ownership Reporting sent by “United States Business Regulations Department” to complete with beneficial owner information and return with a filing fee of $118.00 payable to “United States Business Regulations Department”. The solicitation references the Corporate Transparency Act enacted by Congress which effective January 1, 2024, requires newly formed entities to report beneficial ownership information to FinCEN, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network which is an agency of the United States Department of Treasury.
