Craig Fox, VP of Services, brings more than 20 years of industry experience to Corptax along with a well-earned reputation for building strategic partnerships that deliver exceptional value to clients. Known for his collaborative, solution-oriented mindset, Craig’s “win-win” approach focuses on simplifying tax processes and helping clients make a greater impact within their organizations. We recently spoke with Craig about the changes he’s implemented within the Services Department and his vision for the future.
How does Corptax ensure customers make the most of their software investment?
CF: For us, it’s all about creating meaningful benefits for clients at every stage—whether they’re implementing software, optimizing processes, or adapting to new regulations. Our goal is to help clients streamline workflows, stay compliant, and maximize the value of their software investment. That starts from day one. We collaborate with our sales team to set a clear vision of what’s possible for our clients, leveraging insights from hundreds of client implementations. By providing a realistic and comprehensive work plan, we ensure clients quickly realize value and see a solid return on their investment.
You recently restructured the Services Department with a customer-first approach—can you tell us more about that?
CF: Yes, we combined our Professional Services, Education, Solutions, and International teams under one Services umbrella. This integration allows us to support clients across the entire customer lifecycle, from implementation through ongoing training and support. It’s the right fit for customers navigating the world today, where there’s always something new to learn in both tax and technology.
Education now collaborates directly with our implementation teams, ensuring clients develop strong software skills from the start. Professional Services contributes real-world case studies to enrich training materials, while the International team brings global expertise to product development and implementations that aligns with client needs.
For instance, our Corptax Global Minimum Tax solution takes a comprehensive approach to addressing the complexities of Pillar Two compliance and leverages our global reach and analytics to simplify the data. Similarly, our Income Tax Disclosure solution is comprehensive, simple to use, and flexible.
By combining advanced technology with a deep understanding of corporate tax, we tailor implementations and business processes to meet each company’s unique requirements. This synergy across teams ensures clients receive cohesive support and guidance from every angle.
How do these changes improve the client experience long-term?
CF: This alignment gives clients a more holistic experience. We guide them through every stage, from initial setup through ongoing adoption of new functionality in subsequent years, which maximizes their software use over time. Now, with Education embedded in the implementation phase, and with our International team adding its global perspective, we give clients new possibilities and equip them to continuously refine workflows and better understand tax data to inform decisions at all levels.
What leadership approach did you use to build consensus around these changes?
CF: I’m a big believer in collaborative leadership. People do their best work when they’re trusted and actively involved in the decision-making process. My role is to outline clear objectives, explain the “why” behind our actions, and set core guidelines—but I try to leave the “how” to the team. This approach often sparks fresh ideas and creative solutions. If someone is passionate about a particular approach, I encourage them to show why and how it might work. If it aligns with our objectives, I support it.
Beyond project feedback, how else do you gather insights?
CF: Our annual Corptax CONNECT conference gives us a unique opportunity to hear from a broad range of customers, including those with whom we don’t regularly interact. At our Transformation Station, customers share questions, challenges, and ideas, giving us a better understanding of needs across different segments—and whether they have or need professional support—or if they are doing things independently in the best ways possible.
We actively collaborate and partner with accounting firms (large and small), and we get more insights into what they are seeing in the marketplace, what issues they are trying to address with their clients, and what solutions they are looking for.
We also gather feedback from webcasts we run throughout the year. These sessions provide learning updates, and customers often share valuable input on what they’d like to see next.
Finally, we have Advisory Council discussions with key stakeholders. These clients and industry experts offer a broad perspective on marketplace dynamics and global trends, including advancements like AI and machine learning, as well as emerging and evolving tax challenges. It’s a great way to get strategic input on what matters most to corporate tax professionals.
With significant domestic and international changes shaping today’s tax landscape, how do you help clients keep pace?
CF: We make sure clients stay ahead by providing new tools that immediately address those changes. For example, in addition to the Corptax GMT and Income Tax Disclosure tools I mentioned, we offer analytics tools, data connectors, and related data solutions. We also help clients build scalable, sustainable processes that adapt to changes as they occur. Our loan-staff services bridge resource or skill gaps for clients, providing our expertise throughout each engagement. Further, our partnerships with the accounting firms are stronger than ever. We work hand-in-hand with them to leverage our respective strengths, allowing clients to amplify the results they achieve.
Can you share more about the evolution of Education and the loan-staff services? Both seem to have grown significantly.
CF: Definitely. Education has evolved to meet today’s remote work needs. We’ve shifted from primarily offering in-person, multi-day training sessions to providing short, on-demand modules that clients can fit into their busy schedules. Also, we offer tailored learning paths to address different skill levels, giving clients flexible access to exactly what they need. Loan-staffing, meanwhile, grew from a pandemic necessity to a valued, popular service. Clients needed Corptax-trained support during staff shortages, so we offered temporary staffing to fill those gaps while they build their teams. Demand has surged, highlighting the ongoing need for flexible, Corptax-specific expertise.
The role of tax analytics is expanding. How does that shape client offerings?
CF: Analytics are transforming tax departments. With so much data available, the challenge is harnessing it and turning it into clear, meaningful, and actionable information. We give clients the ability to create easy-to-understand data visualizations. For example, clients can use an analytics tool to quickly see revenue and sales trends and year-over-year comparisons, helping them assess risk and opportunity at a glance. The possibilities are endless.
Our analytics offerings integrate multiple data sources to tell informative stories, enabling clients to explore data in greater depth. This unified approach allows both the tax department and the organization to make informed, strategic decisions. And we continually gather client feedback to drive ongoing enhancements.
What drives the flow of new ideas you develop?
CF: We’re always asking: What’s on the horizon, and how will it impact our customers? These insights drive what we create. Our goal is to anticipate their needs before they arise, enabling them to pivot quickly and move forward with confidence.
Corptax is clearly pushing innovation in multiple areas. Any final thoughts?
CF: I’m excited to see how the strengths of our team come together to ensure clients see Corptax and our Services team as essential partners, delivering practical solutions that align with their needs. By keeping clients engaged with Corptax technology, we help them become more impactful and confident tax professionals.
