New York – NPCL amended to enable a not-for-profit corporation to be organized as a charitable or non-charitable corporation

The New York Not-for-Profit Corporation Law (NPCL) was amended effective July 1, 2014 to enable a not-for-profit corporation to be organized as either a charitable or non-charitable corporation.   A not-for-profit corporation may elect to set forth specific purposes in the certificate of incorporation and may set forth any activities that the corporation intends to carry out in furtherance of its purpose.
